5 prompt habits that give you better answers from ChatGPT

Most weak answers come from vague prompts. These five small habits fix most of them, with examples you can copy.

This is a sample article. It shows how a real post looks: headings, lists, quotes and code, all in the site style.

Start with the goal

Before you type anything, decide what a good result looks like. Is it a short email, a table, or a list of ideas? When you know the goal, you can ask for it clearly.

  • Role: tell the AI who it should act as, for example a patient teacher.
  • Task: say exactly what you want it to do.
  • Context: give the facts it needs.
  • Format: ask for bullets, a table or a word limit.

A clear prompt is like a clear exam question: the better you ask, the better the answer.

Try it yourself

Copy this prompt, change the topic, and compare the answer with a one-line prompt.

You are a patient teacher.
Explain {topic} to a first-year student
in 3 short bullet points, with one everyday example.

Check the answer

AI can sound confident and still be wrong. For facts, numbers and names, check one trusted source before you use the answer.
